Legal Services
Purpose: To support the Municipality’s in enusring municipal governance, and that the municipality operates within the bounds of the law, protects its interests, and serves the community effectively.
Functions:
1.Legal Advice and Counsel: Provide legal advice to municipal officials, staff, and departments on a wide range of issues, including compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
2.Drafting and Reviewing Legal Documents: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, ordinances, and resolutions to ensure legal accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
3.Litigation Management: Represent the municipality in legal proceedings or coordinate with external legal counsel in cases of litigation. Defend the municipality against legal claims and lawsuits, and pursue legal actions on behalf of the municipality when necessary.
4.Legal Research: Conduct legal research to stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations that may affect the municipality. Provide legal analysis and interpretations of laws relevant to municipal operations.
5.Policy Development: Assist in the development and review of municipal policies to ensure they align with legal requirements and best practices.
6.Ethics and Conflicts of Interest: Advise on matters related to ethics and conflicts of interest for municipal officials and employees.
